So.
Voice chat has been enabled on tPW for quite some time now. However, the only times I see people using it it's for talking to each other in some non-standard language (i.e. croatian or swedish or whatever). None of the strategically-oriented guys use the voice chat which is kinda weird to me, since I see it as a great opportunity to boost a team's communications level and gain a strategic edge.
The problem is that I have no idea how to use voicechat to this purpose, and it seems I'm not the only one who's clueless. So, people: what do you think can be done with voicechat and how should it be accomplished? Who should talk and when (everybody/leader/those on offense)? Which channels should be active (team/local etc.)? I think once we talk this over a bit we can really upgrade the teamplay on tPW. What do you say?
My mic is dead so i can't talk. I would want to though.

headset=mic+headphones...
I notice this issue more on public servers.
On Apskaft the same thing happend.
Reasons imo are being shy or the need to stay anonymous for a bit.
Speech can help so much in game.
I still have to meet the person that is able to type/chat and dodge at the same time :|

still, uffish has a valid point. it takes a lot less time saying something than typing it. frankly, i have it turned off (that is, both the ability to speak and to hear) because of the abuse risk. im not going to listen to a squeaky 14yr old singing "jingle bells" and sheyat like that.
and IMO, i belive that only the people with leadership capabilities should have acess to voice chat. otherwise it would be waaaaay too noisy.

and who decides who has these leadership capabilities?maybe we do a poll with stats like championship manager
leadeship:16

:D
i personally dont speak because i am mr green
but i enjoy other people talking,if that doesnt include swearing
Only lm, gp and mg should have the right to speak.
Deciding who has leadership if fairly easy in most games. There's always someone who 'knows what the team should do' (LM/GP usually) and I've yet to see a leadership conflict, where two players battle for the right to lead the team. In fact the more common case is under-leadership, not over-leadership.
On the rare occasion that a team has two strategically-minded players, I believe they would usually see eye to eye (i.e. they'd both think FFS DEFEND THE FRIGGIN FLAG, INCOMETENT HALFWITS! or something along those lines), or as a last resort they can play the leader role in rotation, switching on every game or on every cap.
I don't think any of us have a huge enough ego to feel 'humiliated' by someone else (presumably more competent) giving us orders.
Another option is for everybody to speak on the local channel rather than the team channel, which would enable conversations like "hop on!" and "when we reach the flag, YOU go out to get it while I turn the bender around" etc. I'd prefer the leadership option, but this option is still more than not using it at all.
Regarding abuse, well there's hardly any of it. And I'm sure that if people actually used the voicechat for useful communication, then all those crazy 14yo french kids cursing each other will shortly thereafter stop doing so.
