Title: tpw server performance
Post by: HC! on 2007-06-10 09:31:54
Hi! I have have a question concerning the performance of your server. Is it possible to increase the tickrate there or, even better, change the hoster? The server is very popular and I'd really like to play there, but despite the low ping I experience lags and glitches. Enemies spawn out of nowhere, "teleport" through the map instead of moving properly and the overall gameplay isn't as smooth as it could be. This happens even with enhanced netcode off.

You have packet loss somewhere on your route to the server. There's nothing we can do on this end about that problem, sorry. Try consulting your ISP, or changing it if possible.

Well, I played a while looking at the net statistics and couldn't see any packetloss. But what about the tickrate, 25 is rather low, could you set it to at least 40 or would the CPU load be too high?

If it's not packet loss, it must be unordered packets.
No chance of upping the tickrate further, the CPU is only a P4 3.4.

So how about upgrading the system? With an Athlon 64X2 or Core2Duo processor. Everyone in the community donates 10 bucks and - yay! new server!

I'd like that idea, but most people on the server cant even be arsed to buy a legit copy of UT for those 10 bucks. So i think the chances of getting people to donate 10 bucks on a server are very slim.

Well, I suppose with the release of UT3 an uprgrade / reconfiguration well be necessary anyway If it is intended to hold  an UT3-server (what I assume)

Due to, its release isn't that far away, is it questionable if it make sense go on this matter atm...

Well then, let's hope UT3 has VCTF. Meanwhile I'll have to play elsewhere.  :(

Have you missed that VCTF is the poster game type of UT3? Allmost every news item released shows vctf, and the playable demo they showed in germany was vctf-only. So no worries, whoring will continue in UT3. =)
